We really should start banning anything that offends anyones senses. I mean there are only 300 million people in this country. Surely there will be something for us to do and possibly enjoy. People do not have the right to simply be comfortable while they are making someone else comfortable. Its so easy to only look at things from one side. But for every person you are "protecting" you are also stopping someone from doing something they enjoy.
The fact is that people can get sick at anytime. People who don't smoke or work in places where smoking is allowed can still get lung cancer. Anyone who wants to keep people from smoking cause it "harms" other people is a fascist. And no I don't smoke, I quit about 7 months ago. Freedom is far more important then a few peoples possible health.

Dimitrios, I'm with ya. I like to sit at bars with my gun, and occasionally just fire a shot behind me. Remember: guns don't kill people, and cigarettes don't kill people -- it's the things that come out of guns and cigarettes that kills people.

The two largest counties in my area have now banned smoking in bars and restaurants, except for a few that jump through hoops to get permits. Business slowed down for a while, but now those places have more business than they used to. The non-smokers, and there are a lot of us, started going out again. Since our money doesn't go up in smoke, and we're not on stimulants, we tend to buy more food than smokers. We tip better, too.

A person's right to smoke stops where my personal space starts. I have a right to not smell like smoke, and to not breathe smoke. It's been nice going out with friends again. Oh yeah, and my smoker friends -- they just go outside to smoke, now -- no complaints.

I don't think the little bit of enjoyment the smokers get is worth the health of those of us who don't smoke.

dimitrios, what you don't knnow is that around 90% of the youth who go to bars and/or concerts in romania are smokers. 10% are "statistically insignificant" for the owners. smoking won't be banned due to the corruption and the revenues it generates for both the state and the tobacco industry.

your freedoms end where other people's freedoms begin. we live in a cultured society afterall, don't we?

YOUR SMOKE HURTS MY EYES!!
YOUR SMOKE MAKES MY CLOTHES SMELL!!
YOUR SMOKE DAMAGED THIS GENERATION'S SENSE OF SMELL FOR TOO LONG!!

do your fellow human beings a favor and go smoke outside

I don't mind this kind of propaganda - I'm a smoker but I can still admit that smoking is a pretty stupid thing to do.

I work at a very large casino. Smoking is prohibited around the cages where I do cash transactions. Last year one of my coworkers passed out. She was 55 years old and had worked there for 12 years, either in the vault (completely smoke free) or in the various cages. She was rushed to the hospital where they took an xray of her lung. The doctor told her that she needed to stop smoking immediately or no treatment would be given. A common tactic for doctors. The problem is she has never smoked in her life.

Two weeks ago the casino I work at passed a policy to prohibit all cigar and pipe smoking.

Second hand smoke is dangerous. Less dangerous than actually smoking but it is a risk that is forced upon them, not a risk they choose.

I could quit my job and go work in a smoke free environment, but I would not be able to pay rent or my bills.

Dimitrios, you muppet. Smoking kills. Second hand smoke kills. I am a non smoker and personally couldn't care less if everyone smokes, so long as they pay for the increase in healthcare costs caused by the associated diseases brought on by smoking.

While the idea of supply and demand is a valid argument for driving bars and the like to implement a ban, it has not worked that well yet has it.

The reality is that smoking is an indiscriminate past-time, the person smoking next to me subjects my to the by product of his pleasure. If they breath their somke out it get in my hair, eyes, clothes, lungs and everywhere else.

I just wonder how they would like it if I subjected them to the by-product of my pleasure? I like to drink. I have to take a piss somewhere.....

Go figure

Freedom is more important that the convenience of non-smokers. I don't smoke, never will, but I think smokers have the right to smoke in public, in bars, in designated smoking areas. If the establishment you are going to permits smoking, and you don't like cigarrette smoke, don't go there! The burden is on YOU to go to a place you are comfortable with. You don't want the bar to allow smoking, then vote with your feet, and walk to a place that is smoke-free. If the bar stands to lose money by people leaving because of smoking, you bet your ass they would ban smoking in a heartbeat. Here's another thing: second-hand smoke will not kill you. the statistics for people getting diseases from second-hand smoke compared to people not exposed to it are statistically INSIGNIFICANT. The percentage amounts to 12 more people out of a million. That is statistically insignificant.
